The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers Bachelor of Science degrees (majors) in Geological Sciences and Environmental Geosciences as well as minor programs in Environmental Sciences and Geophysics. Starting in Fall 2026, our new major program, a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences, will open and the Geological Sciences and Environmental Geosciences progams will go into moratorium.

Click on the appropriate links below for more information regarding required coursework.

Our Academic Major Programs

The new major in Earth and Environmental Sciences offers flexible pathways to support careers in geology, environmental science, and planetary science.

The following two programs enter moratorium in Fall 2026. Students already enrolled in these programs can complete and graduate with their degrees. No new enrollees will be allowed starting Fall 2026 or later.

Our Academic Minor Programs

Field trips and excursions

Development of field skills forms an important part of our degree programs. Many courses in the undergraduate curriculum therefore incorporate day or weekend trips to apply classroom knowledge in the field. The Geological Sciences degree also includes a 6-week field camp.
