Spring 2018 Distinguished Speaker Series kicks off with Dr. Yingwing Fei, Carnegie Institution.
The Spring 2018 EES Distinguished Speaker Series kicks of this week with Dr. Yingwei Fei of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C.. He will present "Experimental Constraints on the Composition of the Earth's Core".
The constraints on the composition of Earth’s core come from seismic observations and cosmochemical data. High-pressure experiments provide crucial laboratory data necessary to interpret these observations. Here I present an integrated approach to experimentally constrain the light elements in the core from element partitioning data and measurements of density and sound velocity of core materials under extreme conditions using static and dynamic compression techniques. This integrated approach will yield a more complete understanding of the chemistry and physics of the Earth's core.
Join us at 12:30 PM on Friday, January 12, 2018 in Room 204, Natural Science Building on the East Lansing campus.
