“Putting Dinosaurs in Their Places”

Friday February 6th, 2015
12:30 – 1:30 pm
204 Natural Science

Paul BrinkmanDinosaurs are synonymous with natural history museums. Indeed, modern American science museums are judged by the quality and quantity of their dinosaur exhibits. But this has not always been the case. This talk will explore the history of early dinosaur discoveries and interpretations; the competitive exploration for dinosaurs and other spectacular fossils in the western US; and the ways that dinosaurs have been represented in public museums. It will argue that American museum exhibits of life-like, mounted dinosaur fossils played a key role in the origin and international spread of dinomania.
