New MSU Collaboration will study Midcontinent Rift

A new collaboration between MSU, Northwestern, and Syracuse University, with additional involvement from Aarhus University (Denmark), Northern Illinois University, the University of Hawaii, University of Texas at El Paso, the Ontario Geological Survey, the University of Michigan, and others, will study the Geological Evolution of the Midcontinent Rift as a Hybrid Rift and Large Igneous Province.

Dr. Tyrone Rooney of MSU's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is Principal Investigator of the two-year, 200K NSF grant.  The project summary  is available here.  A recent article about the project, published in the AGU newsletter EOS is at
