Dr. Ben Herman Looks at Promoting Functional Scientific Literacy.

This week our Distinguished Lecture Series features Dr. Ben Herman, Associate Professor of Science Education at the University of Missouri. His talk is titled "Promoting Functional Scientific Literacy Through the Integration of Nature of Science and Socioscientific Issues Research and Instruction". Highlighted here is work that determined the relationships between secondary students’ views about science and sociocultural factors and their willingness to mitigate global warming across various courses of action. Also profiled will be how SSI instruction can impact students’ science perceptions, perspective taking and decision-making in the interest of sociocultural and ecological sustainability. Dr. Herman will present on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm in Room 204, Natural Science Building on the East Lansing Campus.
