Distinguished Speaker Phillips talks "Treaty Monitoring Using Seismology"

This week EES welcomes Distinguished Speaker DR. W. Scott Phillips of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

"Treaty Monitoring Using Seismology"

Scott will start with a brief introduction to the history of weapons testing, treaties, and the seismological aspects of treaty verification. Then he will explain how the US is using regional distance recordings to monitor small explosions in support of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), which bans all nuclear tests of any size, and which the US has signed but has not ratified.

Join us for an insiders look at treaty monitoring through seismology on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 12:30 PM in Room 204, Natural Science Building on the East Lansing Campus.
